They have both afternoon and evening tournaments. Their afternoon tournaments usually pull in anywhere from 30-50 runners and the evening tournaments between 50-60. Their most popular tournament is their Tuesday night £100 Freezeout. It usually attracts a good 70-80 runners. Only their Monday and Tuesday night tournaments are completely dealer dealt.
The Western Club has also recently introduced a monthly £150 monthly tournament. The first took place in Feb 2010, and was a success with 62 runners showing up, and a first place finish of £3069!
Cash Games
After the afternoon tournaments you will find a £25 game, and from 8pm onwards (ideally) a £50 game, and most night you will also have £250 or £500 games, sometimes even going up to £1000. Their cash games begin usually when people start busting out of tournaments, so in the evenings they may not start until quite late sometimes.
All cash tables are dealer-dealt. The games are typically PL Holdem and some Omaha as well. You can contact the club for more detail about the stakes.
Promotions
Tournament Leaderboard - Finalists in their evening tournaments get points for their finishes - 9 points for first place, 8 points for second place, 7 points for 3rd place, down to 1 point for 9th place. Whoever is at the top of the feature leaderboard on 1st June 2010 will be heading to Las Vegas to play in the WSOP, all expenses paid for by the Western Club.
Jackpot Accumulator - Every player who enters any of their afternoon or evening tournaments pays an additional £1 towards the poker jackpot Accumulator. If you hit a straight flush during the tournament using both of your hole cards you win 10% of the jackpot fund. If you manage to hit a royal flush, again using both of your hole cards, you win all of the jackpot prize pool. But beware, there is a rule. The hand must go to a showdown, if your value bet on the river makes your opponent fold!
Background
The Western Club is one of the largest card rooms in the UK. The whole premises covers 11,000 sq. feet and they can host up to 300 players at a time. It is very spacious and they have two areas for dining.
It is quite a busy card room with two tournaments a day, and cash games running most of the day. There are a lot of regulars here, so you will see a lot of similar faces if you come regularly. It's therefore quite a friendly atmosphere. The club has been around a while, and is pretty well-known - the odd poker pro like Roland de Wolff have come through these doors.
It may be a bit far if you are coming by public transport, but if you are driving there is ample parking space.
The club is open 24/7 so even if there are no tournaments or cash games to play in you can always play online at the computer terminals.
Food & Drink
Complimentary tea & coffee is served throughout the day. The bar is open until 3:30am, and the restaurant serves regular bar food - burgers, sandwiches, etc.
Other activities
Other activities are available like snooker, kalooki, and bridge. There are a lot of computer terminals as well, so it's to play some online poker while you are there. You can surf the Internet for free, and if you want to play poker, it has to be on Full Tilt.
Membership
Membership is free - just make sure you send in your application at least 48 hours before you go there. You can do this online, just check out their website.
