All tournaments are dealer dealt. They usually bring in around 30-50 runners, and their more popular games on Fridays and Saturdays (Saturday comps differ) anywhere between 50-80 runners. (Tournament details may change - please contact the cardroom directly to confirm tournament details)
Cash games are dealer dealt, and begin during tournaments when people begin busting out. It is typically £2-£2 PL Holdem, and there is usually at least one table running during and after the tournament. Sometimes you also get a £2-£5 game. Depending on demand there can also be NL Holdem games and Dealers Choice as well although that isn't very often.
The Big Slick Club started almost 4 years ago, and has become one of the more popular clubs of South London (maybe South England is more accurate). They also have clubs in Portsmouth and Hastings.
It is not that easy to get to so your best is to probably drive there. There is ample parking space at the club. If you insist on taking the train it's about a 10 min walk from Purley Oaks Station.
You will probably have a hard time finding the place, but what once you get in, it is a decent looking club with a bar area, some comfy sofas, internet terminals, and a lounge area with Plasma TV and Sky.
As a local club, there are a lot of regulars that play at the Big Slick, and there seems to be good dialogue between management and players, and through their online Forum, they do listen to complaints/issues and make changes, etc.
The vast majority of players are recreational players. So don't expect a high level of poker, although once in a while James Akenhead and Chaz Chattha have been spotted at the Big Slick. And if you are a Millwall fan, I hear Alan Dunne shows up once in a while, and so did Lenny Pidgeley and Jody Morris when they were at Millwall.
They have some interesting promotions (see below) as well as a Main Event every other month, typically a £200+£100 Semi-Freezeout with £20,000 guaranteed.
The club has some interesting promotions for its players. They have for instance an ongoing Royal Flush Jackpot for their cash games. £1 is taken by the house for every pot over £ 100 and recent winners have won from between £700 and £2600. And it's not that unusual to hit the jackpot - so far it has been hit every 2-3 months or so.
There is also a League Points competition which gives away 1) free entry to their Main Event to the outright winner, and 2) a freeroll for the top 54 finishers where the winner gets a package (buy-in, flights, accommodation) to a big European tournament. The tournament will depend on how long the season runs, but the last winner received a package for the last Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam ($1500 NL Holdem). Not bad ey? (although I hear the last freeroll was a turbo tournament which some players weren't too happy with) The amount of chips you get in the freeroll will depend on the amount of League points you have accrued. You collect League Points from the online Big Slick room and from live tournaments at the club. You can also redeem your League points for buy-ins to live tournaments.
As with all private membership clubs, there is a 48-hour waiting period, so make sure you apply before you head over to the club. They do have a one-off £25 joining fee, although this is used to open up an account on the Big Slick online poker room, and the money is deposited in your account.
Food & Drink
Nothing special here – bar food, sandwiches etc, and bar as well.
Well visited recently and I was not to impressed. The place is run down,to many clickey regulars and the dealers are grumpy. The structure was not too bad though the tournie it's self was well run, they just need to give the place a lick of paint and remind the regulars they don't run the place.
No frills or spills, but lively, well organised Poker every evening, Monday to Sunday. Mixed level of players, always a cash game available, min £50 buy in. Small Bar area staffed by friendly Eastern European waitresses, with TV/Computer lounge. Free parking on the rooftop.
